Recently the Delhi High Court order had banned the distance learning courses in physiotherapy running without approval or prior consent of the approved statutory bodies. . Following this, the University Grants Commission (UGC) starts sending notices to universities asking them to stop such courses. Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP), which grants practicing licenses to physiotherapists and oversees education and training for physiotherapy, had opposed the course stating that distance education in physiotherapy was not possible since it involved a lot of practical training. The Physiotherapy assesses and provides treatment to individuals to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and function throughout life. This includes providing treatment in circumstances where movement and function are threatened by aging, injury, disease or environmental factors. Since, the large component of the course is practical teaching, the decision by the Delhi High court has been upheld by the Physiotherapists Association of India.
